Sony CFS-9000

The CFS-9000 is a Sony 3-piece boombox from the mid 1980's that packs quite a punch for its size. It has square APM (Accurate Pistonic Motion) woofers measuring 7x7cm, coupled with 4cm cone tweeters and bass reflex ports. The amplifier chip is an STK4301. On the cardboard packaging for this boombox, Sony claims its power output is 2x40 watts, but the service manual says it's really only 2x22 watts (into 6 ohms, at 1kHz and 10% THD). And that's if you're using AC power. If you're using batteries, output drops to only 2x4W. So keep it plugged into the wall, and you'll be rewarded with very good bass.

The tape deck has auto-reverse, Dolby B, song search, and automatic tape type selector. Its frequency response is 40 to 16,000 Hz when using Metal tape. The tuner has 7 bands (or 8 if it's a European model with the LW band). 5 of those bands are shortwave bands that use a separate toggle switch.

This boombox measures 47cm long, and weighs 8.6 KG (not including batteries). It was available in black or red.
