The high-quality Sencor Mobile Hi-Fi from 1977

Sencor S-5000

This is the S-5000 mobile hifi from Sencor. "Designed in Switzerland, Made in Japan"
High-Quality. Beautiful. Sturdy Construction. Great Sound.
It was most likely introduced in 1977, because that's when the brochure was printed.

Styling:

What can I say, the looks are just sooo very beautiful. Great toggle switches that feel like the ones on a home receiver..... Beautiful meters.....The Sencor S5000 has it all. Tons of controls (see images below), the meters are simply mesmerizing, the features are sooo plentiful... Below the volume knob are the FM presets and the individual tuners, reminiscent of many Grundigs. It's quite rare, at least in North America. Actually, it's uber rare.

Front, Rear and Top view. (See the Sanyo M-9994 behind it for size comparison).

Technical Specs:

Sencor described this model as "Mobile Hifi", and they weren't joking. It's much higher quality than most boomboxes. Everything is very well-built. The tape deck is made of zinc-plated steel. The knobs and toggle switches are metal, and mounted on a metal subframe for stability. Therefore they move with precision, like the controls on a home hifi unit. Inside, the Sencor uses a discrete amplifier design instead of integrated amplifiers. Output is "more than" 2x6W when using AC power. That might not sound like much, but maybe "more than" means minimum? It only has two speakers (13.5 cm each), but it still sounds excellent. And it gets even better if you connect external speakers. Again, that's because of the quality of the internal components. It's just very well-built. It weighs 8.1 kg, which is 1 kg more than a Sanyo M-9994. The tape deck appears rather basic, but its frequency response is 30Hz to 16kHz, which is broader than most others.
