A rugged, heavyweight 3-piece boombox from 1980.

Hitachi TRK-9140

The TRK-9140 is very heavy ghettoblaster from 1980, weighing 10.2 KG (not including the 10 D-cell batteries). It is 54cm wide, 31cm tall, and 19cm deep. The detachable speakers have 12cm woofers, 5cm tweeters, and bass ports. There is also some fiber insulation inside (make sure it is not blocking the bass port!). Amplification is provided by two Toshiba TA7222P chips.

This model is loud and makes good bass, but the mids seem a bit muffled. If you want to replace the speakers, here is some information for you. The woofers are 3.2 ohm, 11.4cm across the frame, 11.9cm across the screw holes, 10.2cm working cone, 7.5cm across the magnet, and 4.6cm deep. If your new speakers are more than 0.6cm deeper than the originals, the magnets will need to be 1.3cm marrower than the originals to allow them to clear the cable compartments.
