Specifications and other information for the Pioneer SK-750 boombox, made in 1982.

Pioneer SK-750

The SK-750 boombox measures 588 x 297 x 148mm, and it weighs about 16 lbs. When you look at it, it surprises you that it was built in 1982, because it looks much more modern than its competitors did at the time. It has 16cm woofers and 5cm tweeters. The tape deck is full logic, soft touch, with One Touch Music Search, Music Repeat, and One-Side Repeat. Frequency response is very good: 30 to 16,000 Hz when using Metal tape. The LED meter is huge, with 12 segments per channel, in two colors. And there's also a bunch of additional controls under a hidden door on top.

Its power output, using the FTC method, was 2x3W continuous, from 80 to 15,000 Hz, into 3.2 ohms, with no more than 10% THD. If that sounds low, remember that the FTC method was a very conservative way to measure output. If Pioneer had used a more liberal method, like most of its competitors did, they could have said 2x10W or more. But they didn't, because Pioneer was one of the more ethical brands.
