Blaupunkt KCR 800-10

The KCR-800-10 (also called the Derby de Luxe) was a ghettoblaster / radiorecorder sold by Blaupunkt during the early 1980's. It is very well-built. The knobs are metal, and the tape keys have a very smooth, solid action. It weighs 12.4 lbs (5.6 kg), not including batteries. Many of its internal components are shared with the ITT Touring 120.

It has 4 speakers, and is powered by two Philips TDA-1011 amplifier chips. According to Blaupunkt, the output is 2 x 3.5 watts RMS, or 2 x 5.5 watts music power. It's a small radio (46cm wide), but it provides more bass than you might expect. And the Wide mode is fantastic!

The meters measure power output, but they don't move very much unless you crank the volume up to distortion territory. The better strategy is to press Rec/Play/Pause. This will make them indicate VU levels instead of power output.

You can connect your iPod to the DIN input on the rear panel, and use the Phono setting on the function switch. You do not need a Phono Attenuator.
