The RX-5600 was made in 1980, and features a soft-touch Dolby deck. In Japan it was branded National instead of Panasonic.

Panasonic RX-5600

The RX-5600 was a fairly large boombox from Panasonic with very good build quality and sound. It was introduced in 1980 for a suggested retail price of 69,800 Yen. Measuring 564 x 325 mm, it's about the same size as a Hitachi TRK-8600. Its tape deck is pretty nice, with soft-touch controls, a wow and flutter rating of only 0.055% WRMS, and a frequency response of 40 to 17,000 Hz when using Metal tape. It also has Dolby noise reduction. The speakers include 16cm woofers and 5cm tweeters. The US service manual says its power output is 2x7.5 watts, but the Japanese service manual says it's only 2x5W, because they were using the more conservative EIAJ/DC industry standard.

The example below is a Japanese domestic National branded version.

The Panasonic branded version (below) as you can see, aside from the name plate and tuner band coverage, does not appear much different.
